Privacy Policy — Nihongo Chat

The short version

Nihongo Chat does not collect, transmit, store remotely, sell, or share any of your personal data. Everything the app does happens entirely on your own device.

What the app stores, and where

• Your study progress, custom cards, and settings (review history, streak, cards you've added, your chosen level, language, and reminder time) are stored locally on your device only, using Apple's on-device SwiftData framework. None of this ever leaves your device or is sent to us or anyone else.
• No account or sign-in. The app has no login, no user ID, and no way to identify you — there's nothing to link data to even if we wanted to.
• No analytics or tracking. The app does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not know how you use the app, how often you open it, or anything else about your usage.

Notifications

If you enable the optional daily reminder, it's scheduled entirely on your device using Apple's local notification system. No server is involved, and no data about you is sent anywhere to make this work.

In-app purchases

The one-time "unlock full library" purchase is handled entirely by Apple's own StoreKit / App Store systems. We never see or store your payment information — Apple processes the transaction directly, under Apple's own privacy policy.

Dictionary data

The app includes a bundled Japanese-English dictionary derived from JMdict, a project of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG), used under their license. This is static reference data included in the app itself — looking something up doesn't send your search anywhere.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.

Changes to this policy

If this app's data practices ever change, this page will be updated to reflect that, and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
